Big, random update.
Am I the only one here that had a huge update?
I had to download 6000 files when I started GW up and when I tried going into a town, I had to download another 18000. Halp? I got a screenshot too if it helps |

My client isn't trying to make a big update here... Seems a little odd.
Could your DAT file possibly have been corrupted? In the event of a corrupted DAT file, the game will redownload any of the damaged files. |

If the problem is the DAT file, all you can really do is download everything again. You can add the -image command to your game shortcut to force the game to download absolutely everything, although this can take some time depending on how many areas you've visited in the past, the degree of damage that your DAT file is suffering from, and your connection speed.

If you reinstalled from the game discs, you'd still need to download a good deal of stuff. The game discs only install the game client and a few of the basic parts of the DAT file, giving you a game that is runnable but still needs you to download quite a bit as you play and move into new areas.

Looking at this picture here, what do you all think I should do? Because the last time I re-installed them all by disc it was pretty good. I only had to download the maps and it only took about 10-20 seconds.

If your not having problems such as, Repairing Data Archive, then I would just use the "-image" switch and let it go. I never download files. When ever a new build is available, just use -image and be one with it.

using the -image command doesn't make the process any faster, it's just that you can do it overnight or sometime when you're doing something else. You could just let it download the stuff now - either way you'll have to wait.

No, if my re-install you mean from the discs, then no.
The discs contain information only up to the point of the last update before they were developed. Any other updates/data released since then would still need to be downloaded. And the discs also don't have all the information either, since last time I had to fix my .dat it didn't seem to. Either way, use the -image tag, let it run overnight or so. I don't know WHY it is choosing to download it all as you showed, but -image it anyways. If by reinstall you mean download the client and reinstall, it would take just as long as the discs. Use -image, its the only way to get by without doing it in-game. if it doesn't work, you need to fix your .dat file, of which there are help files above in the stickies. |

Re-installing, unless you have an archived GW.dat file that is complete, is only going to install a subset of the GW.dat file AND it's only going to be the versions of textures and game files that were current when those discs were pressed so you're bound to wind up need to re-download a bunch of stuff and very likely a lot more than you need to download as of now. |

if you have a backup of your drive get it from there, save you a bit of time if not .. then i suggest that you take a back up of the DAT file (space permitting of course) good luck.

I run my game from an off-board hard drive, and it works great. I can just put it all on there, and the files never get accidentally deleted.
